Tuesday 8.16.11

Activities galore (may include: free food and liquor)

1) Second Annual Korea Day at the Bandshell in Central Park (11am to 6pm). Seems like there will be Korean pop music and dancing, but I'll be honest about my main draw: there will be free bi-bim bop. If you are unfamiliar just trust that it is a rice dish of goodness. And while we're on the topic, Kofoo in Chelsea is a postage stamp of a place, but has good and non-greasy Korean take out at respectable prices and portions.

2) I'm having a love affair with the free food truck marketing trend: Barilla (the pasta people) are handing out free dinner kits Tuesday-Thursday around Manhattan. AND they are donating $1 to the Food Bank for NYC with each kit they give out (although it does seem odd that they wouldn't just donate the money that goes into the free kits, but okay, marketing!). Tuesday from 4-8pm they'll be at 7th avenue btw 31st and 32nd street.

3) The Moon Show, a free variety/comedy/story-telling/music, happens the first and third Tuesday of the month. Tomorrow night they'll be at Public Assembly in Brooklyn at 8pm. And the guests include Janeane Garafalo and Jessi Klein (who's responsible for some of the funniest stories on The Moth's free podcast). And it's right next door to The Cove...

4) The Cove, a bar in Brooklyn with my favorite beer on tap, is having a free party: "The Nerdiest Party Ever". DJs include members of Das Racist and Ninjasonik. There's free vodka from 8pm 'til it's gone, and you can tweet song requests with #nerdiestpartyever. A plus for wannabe-DJs.
