Win tickets for Lysistrata Jones
Flavorpill will be giving tickets away for Lysistrata Jones, which is moving to Broadway. The Off-Broadway production earlier this year got great reviews, so go to Facebook to enter, and take me if you win a pair.
Monday 12.5.11 [BLACK KEYS UPDATE]
All right kids, let's talk Monday.
1) It looks like Southern Comfort is the sponsor for that Black Keys secret show at Webster Hall. Like them on Facebook and keep a close watch. They'll be announcing how to get tickets Monday at 9:45a.
2) Monday Night Vinyl Swap & Funk Fest [scratch that, reverse it] at the Parkside Lounge (317 E. Houston), 9p. Free Magner's cider, too. [via My Open Bar]
3) Iceland Wants to Buy You a Drink, Parts 1 and 2. Free Reyka Vodka, sweepstakes for Iceland trips, and music by Jeff Who? Part 1 is 7-9p at Home Sweet Home (131 Chrystie St.), Part 2 is 10p-12a at R Bar (218 Bowery).
4) PigPen Theatre Co. debut album celebration/concert at the Barrow Street Theater, 7-9p, $10. This is less of a release party and more of a "get-people-excited-and-donate-to-our-Kickstarter" party. PigPen is a group of recent Carnegie Mellon graduates, and their The Mountain Song was very buzzed about at the NY International Fringe Festival. Subsequently, The Nightmare Story (which I can personally say was great) played at the Irondale Center in Brooklyn this past October. Low-tech, cleverly produced folk tales with lots of music, shadow puppets, and banjo-wielding. What I'm saying is, there will be cute boys playing bluegrass music, and you can feel good about supporting new talent.

Robot Oliver Twist and Zine Launch Party
1) All the Rats and Rags, performances at 8p Thursday 11.17-Sunday 11.20 at 3LD Art & Technology Center (80 Greenwich St.). From the Facebook page:
Loosely based off of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, “All the Rats and Rags” follows the creation and destruction of a robot named Twizt. This Sci-fi musical explores human evolution and the growing divide between the rich and poor. Our workshop production utilizes technology in order to create a futuristic society where people are powered by electricity and wear their battery lives on their sleeves.
Adventure! I wonder what this is going to be like. To reserve free seats, email alltheratsandrags@gmail.com.
2) Launch party for The World's First Perfect Zine at Other Music (15 E. 4th St.), Wednesday 11.16, 7-9p. Open bar of some sort and DJ sets by novelist Tao Lin, Victor Vazquez of Das Racist, and The NY Times' Jenna Wortham. No RSVP necessary, but arrive early cause Other Music is small. What do I always say is the most important thing?
Breakfast.
You might be interested in the Arrested Development reunion recently added to the New Yorker Festival schedule. On October 2 at 4p, Mitch Hurwitz, Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jessica Walters (if you're going to see Anything Goes that afternoon, expect an understudy) will appear in a panel discussion at SIR Stage 37 (408 W. 37th St.). Tickets go on sale tomorrow (9.21) at noon, and will probably sell out immediately.
Speaking of theatre, I can't go because I'm going to see the revival of Follies that afternoon, but you can schedule your life better and do both things! Cheap bastard alert: Follies has started selling student rush tickets the day of each performance. You can pick up 2 tickets per valid student ID for $35 (+$2 service fee) each when the Marquis Theatre (46th St. between Broadway and 8th Avenue) box office opens. Read the NY Times review.

Free Fun
Plan ahead...
1) Pandora and State Farm, odd bedfellows, are putting on a free Roots concert on the Intrepid, 9.29. It says food trucks and photo booths will also be there, but it's unclear if they will be free. Doors at 6p, show at 7. RSVP now to rsvp@partyontheintrepid.com for tickets.

2) Enter at Free Night NYC to win tickets to concerts, dance performances, and off-Broadway shows. Between 9.16-9.23, enter to win tickets for performances 10.1-10.16, and between 9.30-10.7 enter for tickets 10.17-10.31. [via The Printup]
The Printup also has a write-up of the Brooklyn Magazine party at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens I recommended. I can personally say, it was a beautiful night and venue, and can you beat free oysters and Blue Marble ice cream? No. No, you cannot.
